Victoria Baths Open Days 2005

Sunny Lowry, who swam the English Channel in 1933 and represented Victoria Baths on BBC's Restoration in 2003, invites you to visit the pool where she learnt to swim. There is much to see - three pool halls, the Turkish baths suite, many ornate decorative features including Art Nouveau stained glass windows, wall tiling and floor mosaics. And Sunny herself!

In 2005 for the first time, visitors also will be able to have a tour of the boiler house complex at Victoria Baths. Open Days to be held in 2005.

Since the restoration win £3.5 million has been put aside towards the renovation of the Turkish baths at Victoria Baths. Much architectural and planning work has been carried out but more remains to be done before actual restoration can start. So you now have the opportunity to view the whole building before work begins.

There will be Open Days on the first Sunday of the following months from 12-4pm, April 3, May 1, June 5, July 3, August 7, September 4 and October 2. The National Heritage Open Days will be held from 11.00am to 5.00pm: on the following days: Thursday 8 September, Friday 9 September, Saturday 10 September and Sunday 11 September.

Admission to Open Days is £1 or free to children and Friends of Victoria baths and on National Heritage Open Days.

At all Open Days there are: Children's activity sheets, Sales Stall, Historical Displays Hot and Cold Refreshments available, Guided tours of the building (no need to book, last full tour at 3.00pm).

Victoria Baths is on Hathersage Road, near Longsight, Manchester 13. At weekends there is free parking in the adjacent United Utilities car park. There is ramped access to the entrance and most of the building can be seen from the ground floor. Toilet facilities are limited, sorry there is no disabled toilet.
