In June 2001, Moazzam Begg a British citizen, his wife Sally and their 3 children travelled to Afghanistan to help local people install water pumps and to open village primary schools. Moazzam never came home. Along with 600 others he is still imprisoned in Guantanamo Bay, without charge or any chance of trial.
Annette Rimmer, a spokesperson for the recently formed Greater Manchester Guantanamo and Belmarsh Campaign, says, "I am disgusted and ashamed with our government, the governmen claiming to represent a civilised Nation has allowed Moazzam and other citizens to be imprisoned and tortured without recourse to even a semblence of justice."
Azmat Beg, the father of the imprisoned Mozzam Beg along with family of Babar Ahmed, who is held in Belmarsh prison without charge, will be addressing a public meeting in Manchester on Thursday 25 November.
The organisers have written to every single manchester councillor aiming to enlist their support.
