There is rapidly growing opposition to any war on Iraq. 400,000 people attended a "Don't Attack Iraq" anti-war march in London at the end of September. Several coaches went from Greater Manchester. Inspired by this, the Stop the War Coalition have called for a day of "national civil disobedience" on Thursday 31 October. Events in Manchester include a lunchtime vigil at the University of Manchester, another in Albert Square, Longsight's residents' protest, a no-war themed Hallowe'en Critical Mass, and an early evening vigil and rally in All Saints Park.
