Justice for the Mentally Ill

A new campaign has been launched to stop the harassment of the mentally ill in Manchester. Apparently, Manchester City Council's Housing Benefit Department has an audit section whose officers have visited mentally ill citizens (ie those who are most easily confused) in receipt of benefit without any prior notice whatsoever. The campaign claims that officers plough on regardless of who they hurt show no regard or respect for anyone, and have a philosophy that claimants are "fraudsters" until proven "worthy".

More background details are available from http://members.aol.com/mcrcouncil and there's an online petition, demanding the immediate cessation of Manchester City Council's practice of making un-notified visits to people with mental health problems and the modification of their procedures to ensure equality for all.
