Putting the Green Pieces Together
Greater Manchester Greenpeace groups have started working more closely together. The groups in Manchester, Oldham, Stockport and Eccles have started working in collaboration with each other. The aim of is to serve various purposes:
This move has come about primarily because the number of active supporters in each of the groups has been declining and some groups will struggle to undertake the activities they've done previously.
- to create "teams" of volunteers to undertake Greenpeace activities throughout the region - instead of individual group members feeling obliged to do so due to having few active members in their own group
- to create a better sense of unity for the members of the groups - instead of individuals feeling that they are part of (relatively) small groups of supporters, through the collaboration they will feel more united and supported
- to undertake a joint (larger) campaign - as opposed to more, but much smaller, campaigns in the different areas
The first joint initiative is a series of "Green-peace Band Nights" on the 4th Thursday of the month at the "Night and Day" cafe, Oldham Street. Local bands will perform and it's an ideal opportunity to socialise with other environmentally-minded people as well as raise funds. Check the Events Listing for more information.
Another activity for Greenpeace is on Friday 9 July as it will be the Oldham group's 10th Birthday Party. Activities planned include a comedian and quiz. Food will be available but please bring your own drink. Please ring for more details.
All groups are now entering their busiest fundraising period with stalls at festivals etc, as well as the annual sponsored Whalewalk which will take place at Sale Waterpark and Brownhill Visitor Centre, Oldham on Sunday 18 July.
We hope to see you at one (or more!) of the events.
