Resisting the Big Bad Giant
About 150 people, including a large contingent from Manchester, gathered at the Queen Elizabeth II conference centre at the end of April to show resistance to British Aerospace (BAe) at their Annual General Meeting. Over 100 shareholders attended the AGM itself, chanting or asking questions about BAe's (lack of) ethics. Most were ejected but Campaign Against Arms Trade were able to ask Dick (Head of BAe) Evans whether his company was breaking the Ottowa Convention by producing RDX for landmines. Needless to say, Evans averted the question. Outside, there was a rally at which repressed Kurds spoke of their ordeals, and Mark Thomas gave some witty support. There was also a emotional, bloody, "die in".
